Who taught you to hate the texture of your hair? Who taught you to hate the color of your skin, to such extent that you bleach, to get like the white man? Who taught you to hate the shape of your nose and the shape of your lips? Who taught you to hate yourself from the top of your head to the soles of your feet? Who taught you to hate your own kind? Who taught you to hate the race that you belong to, so much so that you don’t want to be around each other?

Who taught you to hate the texture of your hair?

Who taught you to dislike the texture of your hair? Who taught you to hate the wooliness of your hair? Who taught you to hate the curliness of your crown? Who taught you that your hair was coarse? Who told you that your hair needed to be altered by heat? Who told you, you don’t have good hair?

Who told you that your hair was a mistake? Who told you that your hair is not professional enough for the workplace? Who told you that your hair is 4c and not 1a? Who relegated your hair to the bottom of the category instead of the top?

Who taught you to hate the color of your skin?

Who taught you that your skin was filthy and dirty? Who told you that your skin was too dark? Who taught you to hate your abundant and stunning melanin? Who taught you to hate your magnificent black skin? Who taught you to hate your beautiful coffee tinted skin? Who taught you to hate your natural sun screen?

Who taught you to hate what essentially makes you glow? Who taught you that light skin is prettier than dark skin? Who taught you to choose spouses based on skin color? Who taught you to bleach your skin? Who taught you to take pills so you can bleach the unborn baby that you carry? Who taught you to apply skin lightening cream?

Who taught you to hate the shape of your nose and the shape of your lips?

Who told you that there was something wrong with your nose? Who told you that your nose was imperfect? Who taught you that your nostrils were too big? Who taught you that your nose was formless? Who taught you that your nose was flat and shapeless?

Who taught you that “straight” nose was the epitome of noses? Who taught you that your nose was crooked? Who taught you to surgically alter the shape of your nose? Who taught you that your lips were too big? Who told you that your lips were ugly?

Who taught you to hate the race that you belong to?

Who taught you to hate your own race? Who taught you to be xenophobic? Who taught you to hate the word Africa? Who taught you to hate being African? Who taught you to disassociate with Africa? Who taught you to demean your own? Who taught you to look down on your own kind? Who taught you that others in your own race are lower in status than you?

Who told you that an accent was a measure of intellect? Who taught you to feel superior to your own people? Who told you that Africa has no civilization? Who taught you that Africa has no society? Who taught you that Africa has no history? Who taught you that Africa has no Education? Who taught you that Africa has no writing? Who taught you to go on holiday all over the world except Africa?

Know thy self, salvation is from within…and if you are broken within, you cannot move forward.
